Friend Friday: Well Color Me Pink

Katy of ModlyChic gave us a fun set of questions for this weeks Friend Friday. We are talking about color, and how we incorporate (or don't for some) it into our wardrobes.  This week is also exciting, because,

1. What color dominates your closet?

Blue is my favorite color, but after a mandate from the Mr. I began purchasing different colors. Surprisingly, purple became my replacement blue. At the moment I think I have a decent mix of colors.

2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet?

Honestly, I'm pretty happy with the color variations of my wardrobe. In the spirit of dreaming, I guess I would use my money to continue to add fun and interesting colors. Maybe some harder to work with shades. I hear neon bright colors are going to big this summer.

Ooh!!!! Shoes!!!! I change my answer. I would buy shoes in every color. I love colorful shoes!

3. What is your mantra about mixing color?

I don't think I really have a mantra. I guess I try it out, and if I don't like it I change. However, if you want to quote me on something I'll go with, "If it is in the rainbow, it can be worn together."

4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?

I try and wear at least one colored piece with every outfit. I grew up wearing a lot of black for ballet, so touches of color are more fun for me. It is a means of expression, instead of conforming to a dress code.

I also wear a lot of colored tights. Which after testing out these WLC babies I've found a new love. They are soft, warm, and durable. What more can you ask for from tights*?

5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe?

I know I'm not the only one that will mention this lady, but Suze of Miss Vinyl Ahoy is a color mixing queen. I also think Franca of Oranges and Apples mixes colors together quite well. I really like Chelsea of Three Birds, but maybe it is more the bright wall she photographs in front of that always screams "color" to me.

Friend Friday: Copying in the Fashion Industry

It is that time of the week again. Time for me to answer questions from Katy at Modly Chic. Last weeks topic was something that has been talked about all over the blogosphere, fall fashion. Today we are back to the hard hitting subjects. We are discussing copying in the fashion industry. If you want to join us head on over to Katy's blog.

1. Which side do you take… Copycat designs are a way for the average consumer to stay current and wear runway styles without breaking the bank OR Copycat designs take business from the designer and cheapen the value of their work. Explain. I guess I fall under the first option. However, I prefer to see designs that are similar without being an exact copy. Obviously, Forever 21 and other stores aren't going to have same quality of product and craftsmanship as the designer piece it is fashioned after.

I believe fashion is for the people, and some people can afford to purchase designer items, and others can't. For myself and the others who can't I don't think we should purchase knock-offs that are being passed as the real deal. But I don't see a problem with purchasing items that are inspired by the runway.

2. Sometimes we do things, even if they are unethical or illegal (downloading music for free, watching full movies on YouTube). Do you think it is unethical for a designer to copy a vintage piece, make it current and sell it? To this one I'm going to say no. Fashion is always going to repeat itself, so the tea length dresses my grandma wore are fashionable for me to wear today and probably again when my daughter is my age. However, finding vintage pieces isn't a walk in the park to do. Sites like Modcloth that sell vintage and vintage inspired pieces are very invaluable to the wannabe vintage fashionista. 

3. Would you buy an item that is a very well done copy of a runway garment if it fell within your budget? Honestly, I have to resort back to my first answer and say if they are passing it off as an authentic piece, no.

4. According to the fashion laws, at least in the US, apparel design is seen as too utilitarian to qualify for copyright protection. Would you think this is detrimental to the industry or beneficial. (Check out this video on The Taxonomy of My Wardrobe to get a better idea of this concept: http://taxonomyofmywardrobe.blogspot.com/2010/08/fashion-and-copyright-laws.html) If they begin to copyright apparel design then the cost of all clothing ,designer or not is going to rise. If manufacturers or designers have to pay to use a sleeve they are going to pass that cost on to us. That would be detrimental in my opinion.

 

5.  Own up… share the things in your closet that is a knock off. You know those things you got in China Town, on the streets of New York, or where ever. To the best of my knowledge, I don't have any knock offs. I did get a a Prada purse that my mother in-law got at Goodwill. I'm pretty sure it is real.

Friend Friday: Fall Fashion

I've joined ranks when many other bloggers in a thing called Friend Friday. This is spearheaded by a wonderful lady named Katy over at ModlyChic. She sends out a list of questions on a topic for us to answer on Wednesday, and Friday (What other day would it be?) we post our answers to her questions. 1. What new fashion trend are you looking forward to sporting this fall? Either fifties inspired pieces (or the real deal if I'm lucky thrifting sometime), pieces detailed in lace, or the animal print trend. I'm just about loving everything this season. However, fifties inspired pieces probably tops my list.

2. Which item in your closet is most likely to be your go-to transition piece? My jean jacket. I will be able to wear it over many of my summer pieces to make them more fall weather appropriate.


3. What item from last year are you looking forward to reinventing this fall? My thin moto jackets. I got them for Christmas last year, so I didn't get much use out of them before it was to cold.


4. What is your favorite part about this time of the year?(fashion wise) Layering! I love how layering the same pieces different ways can completely change the look. (otherwise) I enjoy watching the leaves change color. Watching the leaves fall is great too, as long as I'm not the one raking them.


5. Will you be attending any fashion events this fall? Unfortunately, I will not be attending any fashion events. Maybe next year.
